An SQL server is basically a database server that uses the Structured Query Language (SQL) to accept requests for data. It's also the name of a Microsoft database engine belonging to its NT-based BackOffice family of products. The beta version of the next generation Microsoft SQL server, known as SQL Server 2005, is codenamed Yukon. This server is aimed at giving improved, reliability, flexibility, scalability, and security to database applications, and to make them easier to create and use. Yukon also allows data sharing between various devices and applications, and across multiple operating systems. The product aims to reduce the complexity and tedium involved in most database management. Microsoft intends to release SQL Server 2005 during the first half of 2005.
